introduction

Hope to AfricaA tidal wave of death is sweeping across our world and specifically Africa. HIV/AIDS is adversely effecting nations, communities and families; especially children. Over two million children in sub-Saharan Africa have contracted HIV/AIDS and over twelve million children are orphans due to AIDS. Every 14 seconds a child is orphaned because of AIDS which will result in over 20 million children becoming orphans before the end of this decade.

In December of 2007, I took my fourth extended trip to Africa to see the problem first hand and to meet with government officials, community leaders, and indigenous workers, to identify the most effective way to maximize our work in Africa. Observing work in Swaziland, Mozambique, Tanzania and Malawi, I was excited to see so much good being done as the direct result of the investment we’ve made through our initiative, Hope to Africa. To say I was deeply moved is an understatement of how I felt as I saw the difference clean water, nutritional food, crops, medication, HIV/AIDS preventative education, clothing and orphan care has made in the lives of so many suffering people.
